Olympics vs. Sleep

I know I'm not the only Olympics addict out there so I figured I'd confess my addiction. But with two Iowans there (Shawn Johnson in gymnastics and Lolo Jones running the 100m hurdles) I can't resist. I was a gymnast and a 100m hurdle runner myself-I'll take that as a sign that it's alright to neglect my much-loved sleep for the Olympics...Plus the swimming is so fun to watch. I was looking at the schedule online and there is a trampoline event!!! When is that going to be on? Let me just say that I was not overly excited that the Olympics were coming on-just curious about when the SUMMER Olympics were going to start-it's almost Fall for goodness sake! I told Jake one night that if the Olympics were ever held within 10 hours driving time we would go. He wondered where that would be-I told him they could hold the summer Olympics in Chicago or the winter ones in Denver. Not two minutes after this discussion a commercial came on advertising a candidate city for 2016-CHICAGO!!! Hooray!!! Now, I realize there are other candidate cities and Chicago is actually third on the list of four right now (Tokoyo is first right now-isn't that a little too close to go back to when they're in China right now!??!). The other two cities are Madrid, Spain and Rio de Janerio, Brazil. Personally, I think Chicago would be a great choice-I'll probably 10 or 11 kids by then to take with me (just kidding-probably closer to 5 or 6 and we'd be done!). The decision will be made in October in Copenhagen-I'll keep everyone updated!!

Nauvoo

Jake's family always takes a trip to Nauvoo each summer to see the pageant. While Isaac was there last year he got a whole lot more out of it this time around. Not to mention I have pictures from this trip (I accidently deleted them from last year-along with the picture of Mitt Romney holding Isaac the day we left for Nauvoo. Luckily that one wound up on the front page of a local newspaper.).
Anyways...the first night we went to Adventure Zone-a mini-version of Chuck-E-Cheese (and much, much cleaner-not so many stinky, runny-nosed kids (guess how I feel aobut Chuck-E-Cheese...). There was a little section for the babies with a slide-it was WAY fast and Isaac seemed to enjoy it though it would have been nice if I could have sit up all the way. There was also a car that Isaac wanted to sit in all night-it had a steering wheel so of course it was love at first sight. He wasn't scared at all when we put the quarter in and it started to "drive." It was pretty funny.
I was surprised he kept this little hat on long enough for a picture-he is NOT a hat kind of kid-I think he's too proud of all that white hair.
The day we left we were able to get our picture taken in front of the temple-sad to say it's better than our wedding pictures (we hired a not-so-great photographer).
We also saw the pageant and Jake and I were able to go to a session at the temple (thanks Mom and Dad for watching Isaac!). It was a fun trip and we are looking forward to next year when Isaac will be able to do even more (and when we will have TWO kiddos with us!).

It's Official!

So a few of you have noticed my little baby widget or have read my subtle mentionings of baby #2. Well, I had my first appointment today and it's official-I'm pregnant! My due date is February 10th(ish). Not that I have anything against Valentine's Day-I just hope I don't deliver that day. I want baby to have his/her own special day. I've felt great (I'm one of the lucky few who don't get sick) and look forward to another healthy pregnancy. I'm not hoping either way for a girl or a boy-there are certainly reasons for and against each, but I'll really be happy with either. (What other choice do I have anyways!?!?) Here's a couple pictures from my ultrasound-they aren't as good as the first ones of Isaac, but this baby was moving around a lot and Isaac was very still during my first appointment with him. We are looking forward to being parents again and just hope and pray that all goes as smoothly as last time. :)

8 Random Facts

My sister tagged me to list 8 random facts about myself-since I just did three in my list 3 things tag, I am only going to list 5. (If you are desperate for 8-scroll down.)

1. I can get brain freeze from cold tap water. I have a really sensitive cold meter I guess. I can't eat slushies-those are like torture. I get this from my Dad-I suppose there are worse things to pass on to your children.

2. I have a strange, natural talent of good grammar. I notice when people use apostrophes when they shouldn't (use it when it possessive not plural, please!), when except and accept, effect and affect, etc. are misused. The thing that drives me nuts though is when people use I instead of me. For example, it is incorrect to say, "Joe came to see Bob and I." You need to say, "Joe came to see Bob and me." Reason: you wouldn't say, "Bob came to see I." Make sense? It doesn't to most people so I just deal with it. It really doesn't bother me all that much-most people were taught grammar by mean, old, way-past-retirement middle school teachers. I don't blame you!

3. I went to three different schools in kindergarten and three different schools in 4th grade. My dad was in the military and we were between moves.

4. I am obsessed with Swedish Fish-I can eat a whole bag (like the $3 bag) in about 15 minutes and still want more. Needless to say, I don't buy them all that often.

5. I HATE commercials. I change the channel on the radio or mute the TV when they come on. I don't really have a reason-I suppose I don't like useless spending and there are very few helpful commercials that actually have a point. Jake has finally learned that if he has the remote it's better to just mute it during the commercials rather than listen to me ask every 8 minutes when the show takes a break.

Alright, I suppose I am supposed to tag people-if you want to do this, you are tagged. Boring, I know. :)

Photos...Finally!!

So I tried to take Isaac for his one year pictures a couple weeks ago (yes, I know-his birthday was in May but life was busy and blah blah blah). I took him to JCPenney and it was a nightmare! He just bawled hysterically the whole time. The studio was dark and they wanted me and Jake to sit on either side of him and then have him look forward at the photographer-yeah, that worked real well. Needless to say, we didn't get a single shot and we left with intentions of going elsewhere. I've always taken him there and he's done fine-guess it was just that day. So today I took him to Portait Innovations over by Jordan Creek Mall. I was worried because the first time I sat him down he started crying. Then the photographer got out that little rocking chair and his mood changed instantly. Not that it was a perfect photo shoot, but he did SO much better than at JCP. Naturally, it ended up costing me much more than I would have spent at JCP, but oh well-I'll just take each of my kids there for their 1 year pics and then JCP the rest of the time. Here are a few good ones-isn't he adorable!!!
